Totally Awesome Harry Potterness

Ok, so..... a ton of stuff's (HP stuff) happened, and I haven't bothered to update this journal so now I shall do so:

1) A Very Potter Musical: This made my life!!! I've probably watched it at least three times. It is totally awesome! Musicals and Harry Potter - the two things I love most. And I got to meet some of the cast at Azkatraz! (more on this later)

2) Half-Blood Prince Movie: I enjoyed it immensely. It is my favorite one so far (except for the first one, because you can't really compare the two). It was hilaroius! I loved Felicx!Harry, and the writing was brilliant. My only qualm is that I don't think that they Ron and Hermione's relationship justice. Hermione was absolutely perfect, but Ron seemed rather indifferent. This is when he starts to come to terms with his love for Hermione, but he still seems as clueless as ever. Don't get me wrong, all the Ron/Hermione moments they had were perfect (especially the hospital scene!) but their relationship is subtler than I would like. But maybe Kloves wrote it that way so that Ron can have some really funny "oh snap I love Hermione" moments in DH (which I am very excited for). The HBP movie was more about harry/ginny, and DH will probably focus on ron/hermione.
That is my only criticism, and all in all I absolutely loved HBP!

3) Azkatraz: Best weekend of my life! I had so much fun! The movie and podcast were great - there's nothing like wandering around San Francisco at 3 in the morning in wizard robes.
Wrock Around the Rock was amazing!!!! The music was great - my cousins and I bought all of Ministry of Magic's CDs - and the Potter Musical folk were there! I got a picture with them and it made my life :D
Back at the convention place we got to sing the musical songs with them as well. It was totally awesome :)
I am definitely going to Infinitus next year!

4)and to top it all off, I visited England this summer and got to see a bunch of places where they filmed parts of HP, and I even got to ride the Hogwarts Express!

good times. I am such a dork

So....yeah

I seem to have a habit of only posting about once every 2 months.

It was really sunny today, so I didn't wear a sweatshirt - but there was epically cold wind, so I was freezing.
aaaaaaaaah!
and tomorrow i'm gonna wear a sweatshirt and it's gonna be freakin hot. Awesome.

In other news, Warner Bros. moved HBP to July 15. Make up you flippin minds people!!!
What about us Azcatraz folk that were looking forward to the midnight release on the 17th and already bought tickets and made plans?!
Bah humbug.

Whatever. I'll just wait till the 17th. Or watch it twice.

So......yeah
Despite those two mini rants, life is pretty good

I just got back from Boston and St. Louis a couple of days ago. I went college shopping over spring break.

I got tons of chocolate easter candy (I love Easter egg hunts. You're never too old!!!)

It is Valentine's Day.

In the spirit of The Office, Happy Valentine's Day!
Some people don't like Valentine's Day, but I'm not going to complain about another excuse to eat lots of chocolate.

Aang Ain't White

PLEASE read this blog post by artist Derek Kirk Kim: http://derekkirkkim.blogspot.com/2009/01/new-day-in-politics-same-old-racist.html

I just don't get it. They're casting white actors for Avatar the Last Airbender, even though the creators went through painstaking efforts to depict it as a distinctly Asian theme: http://aang-aint-white.livejournal.com/1007.html#cutid1

The fact that Hollywood is tainting all of this by casting young attractive white kids for more "appeal" is just insulting.

Even Toph would be able to see that its clearly Asian-themed, and she's blind!

Now you, too, can throw shoes at our beloved president!

http://www.sockandawe.com/

"Sock and Awe" pits players against President
Can you out-shoe al-Zaidi?

By Mike Smith

Shoe-wielding Iraqi journalist Muntadar al-Zaidi, who was catapulted to international prominence after throwing his shoes at President Bush during a press conference in Iraq, is now the star of the latest in viral Web games.

"Sock and Awe" -- named after the military doctrine employed in the US operation to remove Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq -- allows players to throw shoes at a figure of President Bush, as he ducks behind a podium.

Al-Zaidi missed both his attempts before being dragged off by Iraqi security forces, but players of "Sock and Awe" have a little more leeway -- you can keep slinging footwear for up to thirty seconds.

At the time of writing, the virtual President Bush has been struck in the face by 21 million shoes, the site indicates.

Sock and Awe

Sock and Awe also shows visitors a league table of "Bush-shoeing countries" -- and although the United States is number one, the top five also includes France, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

News of his new-found Web fame is unlikely to come as much comfort to al-Zaidi, who is reportedly facing up to two years in prison for disrespecting a foreign leader. Players of Sock and Awe are unlikely to meet the same fate.

Twilight Movie

I actually really enjoyed this movie! It went way above my expectations - considering my expectations were that it would suck
And it wasn't just a constant flow of cheesy crap(I love the books, but that's pretty much what they are sometimes), there was much more action than the book, and there were jokes, and a bunch of wonderful awkwardness!
And it was funny to here screaming fangirls :)

28 Reasons Why the Movie is better than the book: [link]
make sure to click on the slideshow. I thought it was hilarious :D

All in all, a quality film

Prop 8

As I am sure all of you are aware, Proposition 8 in California will amend the CA Constitution and ban gay-marriage in California, defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

This, my friends, is not only a matter of gay rights, but a matter of our freedoms as citizens.
In 2000, California voters voted to define marriage as between a man and woman, but 4 judges of the Supreme Court overruled the people and repealed the ban on gay marriage, violating the separation of powers, and imposing their own views on millions of people after the people had already spoken. The purpose of the Judiciary branch is to uphold the law, not to create law. If we allow a few people to rule over us and not respect our votes, we are no longer a republic.
So, Prop 8 would make an amendment to the California Constitution, so the judges can no longer manipulate it and call it "unconstitutional".

This all being said, I now confess that I am for Yes on Prop 8. Here are my reasons for my 'ignorant' and 'discriminatory' view: Marriage is sacred. It is not so much a right as it is a sacrament, and is a bond between a man and a woman. A man and a woman complement each other, and fit together in a way that they "become one flesh" and produce life. It based on a core of values that is so ingrained within each of us, that the concept of marriage as between a man and a woman is virtually universal throughout the planet.

Morality is very important, whether we believe it or not. And the argument that "gay marriage doesn't affect you, so why do you care?" is obsolete, because it very much affects all of us, whether gay or straight. It opens up all sort of ways in which religious rights can be pushed aside. In just about every case, gay rights trumps religious rights. And California is a big state: what we do influences other states, and if Prop 8 does not pass, it may not be long before US Constitution is amended in favor of gay marriage. This increasing idea of relativity, and that you can do whatever 'feels' right to you has grave implications for our future. There are absolute values, people, whether you like it or not. We have to stand up for some morality in this country.
If we so loosely define marriage and strip it of all traditional meaning, then it will eventually cease to mean anything at all. If it is simply love between people, could you not also make the case that polygamy should be legal?

Even so, I'm for civil union, which confers all the same property rights as marriage, which I believe is important for equality. After all, our natural rights are life, liberty, and property.

So, in conclusion, I'm for Prop 8 because marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman, and it should stay that way. Otherwise we are headed down a slippery slope my friends.

Please, though, respond to this (but not in an angry, name-calling sort of way, because that is truly pointless and fails to prove that you are not ignorant yourself) I love a good debate, and I do not mean any ill-feelings toward anyone. We are all entitled to our opinions, and that is the beauty of this country.
But, be warned: tolerance does not mean that we do not allow anyone to state their opinion because someone disagrees with them; that is intolerance. Tolerance is allowing people to speak even though we disagree with them.

Uganda

So, me and 25 other people went to Uganda for 2 weeks on a mission trip to help out AIDS orphans.

It was freakin amazing!!!

The people there are the friendliest, warmest, and most joyful people I've ever met in my life, even though they have nothing and have been through so much hardship and suffering.

We had a VBS for the kids, did construction, visited schools, and did a 3 day teen retreat.

We went through an organization called Children of Grace [So, me and 25 other people went to Uganda for 2 weeks on a mission trip to help out AIDS orphans.

We went through an organization called Children of Grace [http://www.children-of-grace.org/] who provides support and education fees for kids in need, through sponsors in other countries.

I wasn't overwhelmed by the poverty I saw there. I just figured I'd do little acts of love and God'll do something great.

Make the choice to make a difference! It is estimated that a child is orphaned by AIDS every 14 seconds. AIDS creates 6,000 orphans in a single day. Join with the sponsors and volunteers of Children of Grace by making a difference in the life of an orphaned child.

Breaking Dawn....no spoilers

I loved this book! I can't see why everyone hates it, but I understand if they're unhappy with it. I'm a Harry Potter fan at heart anyway, so I don't really care.

I don't think these books are great literature, but they're sure as heck fun to read

I really enjoyed this book. It was intense and awesome because so much freakin unexpected stuff happened! (or maybe that's why lots o people hate it....hm....)

And I loved how it ended....
I am completely satisfied with this series, and wasn't depressed when it was over. Which is a first, for me.
I'm very happy with this book, and it's ending.
I enjoyed it immensely.

In all honesty, I thought it was amazing and really fun to read.
If you disagree, more power to you. Have your opinion.
Don't be hatin'

o_O

According to some, apparently Stephenie Meyer just annihilated her fanbase. That sucks. I still like her though.

I hear some people call it "Burning Dawn" cause they hate it so much they want to burn it. Lol. They need to chill.

Enjoy your angry mobbage.

peace out.

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day! (to those in the US of A)

I ate a hamburger and watermelon and watched fireworks. :D
how very american of me.....
anyway....

We actually should be celebrating the 2nd of July (according to Wikipedia)
Enjoy:

During the American Revolution, the legal separation from Great Britain occured on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia.[1] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a committee with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:
The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.[2]
Adams's prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.[3]
One of the most enduring myths about Independence Day is that Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.[4] The myth had become so firmly established that, decades after the event and nearing the end of their lives, even the elderly Thomas Jefferson and John Adams had come to believe that they and the other delegates had signed the Declaration on the fourth.[5] Most delegates actually signed the Declaration on August 2, 1776.[6]

Super Tuesday

Mmmkay, so here's our options:

Republicans:
-McCain = old...yet steadily conservative
-Romney = Mormon
-Huckabee = .....um...who?

Democrats:
-Hilary Clinton= yeah....no
-BARACK OBAMA = w00t!

Considering I can't vote, my analysis isn't exactly that in depth, so please excuse me.

Anyhoo, I'm rooting for a McCain vs. Obama election, either of which I'd be fine with being president, preferably Obama

I'm Republican.....but that doesn't mean I can't like Democrats.

Vote Obama!
